Pennsylvania has a new law regulating the resale of tickets to concerts, sports and other events over the Internet.
As Pennsylvania lawmakers grappled with weighty issues like the budget and transportation funding in recent weeks, they also passed a bill, now signed by the governor, aimed at making sure that consumers who buy tickets via the web get what they pay for. Erik Arneson is a spokesman for Senate Republicans:
“Right now, tickets are being bought and sold over the Internet – everybody knows it, and there’s no way to stop it. So, the goal of this bill is to give consumers some protections when they’re buying through reputable sellers like Ebay, Stub-Hub, and other places like that.”
The new law guarantees that consumers get a refund if the event is cancelled, if the ticket they purchased turns out to be fake, or if the ticket fails to match up with the description on the website. There will be no cap on the premium that can be charged for tickets sold over the Internet (see related story).
