Wally Kennedy

Wally Kennedy has been a news anchor with KYW Newsradio since 2006. A familiar name in Philadelphia radio and television, he has covered stories in the area for 25 years.

Prior to joining KYW Newsradio, he spent twenty years as a television talk host, leading three successful news-oriented talk programs, an entertainment show which handily won its time period, and many special programs.

He has reported from the Vatican, from the trial of South Carolina mother accused of drowning her children, and from the OJ Simpson murder trial in Los Angeles. With the cooperation of  prison authorities, he volunteered to be jailed for 48 hours to report on what people can expect when convicted of drunk driving.

Kennedy has interviewed a virtual "who's who" of Philadelphia politics, including mayor John Street, DA Lynne Abraham, and then-councilman Michael Nutter, as well as Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell numerous times.  He was the first to interview Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Fumo about serious published accusations that eventually led to his indictment.

And Kennedy got the very first interview with then-mayor W. Wilson Goode following the release of the MOVE Commission report on the fire that killed 13 people and destroyed a city block. Contents of that interview were carried by broadcast and print news services nationally.

Celebrities Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Cruise, and Oprah Winfrey have all been interviewed by Wally Kennedy for his shows. And Kennedy himself has been interviewed by NBC, ABC and CNN about stories he has covered.

Prior to his television work, Wally Kennedy was a radio talk host at WCAU (now WPHT), the CBS owned talk station in Philadelphia. And before coming to Philadelphia in 1981, he worked at WSB in Atlanta and stations in Flint, Mich. and Evanston, Ill.

Kennedy has been an adjunct professor of journalism at Temple University. A native of Chicago, Kennedy is a graduate of Loyola Academy and Columbia College, where he earned a BA in Communications.

Wally Kennedy is proud to have served on the Philadelphia boards of directors for several nonprofit organizations including the American Heart Association and the Lupus Foundation.  He and his wife are the parents of three children -- Tom, Erin, and Kaitlin -- and make their home in Chester County, Pa.
