Ocean City, NJ is following the lead of Philadelphia and some other major cities and considering wireless for the beachfront community.
The Ocean City municipal government is expected to start soliciting vendors for their wireless system by the end of the summer. The idea is that it will make the shore community more attractive to visitors if they can access the Internet from anywhere on the island.
Kristina Doliszny owns a bed-and-breakfast in Ocean City, and believes tourists will love it.
"And if they access the wireless system, I am certain that there is going to be an opportunity for a win-win situation for advertisers as well as people who want to go online and use the online services."
The city is hoping to have the wireless system up and running by the summer of 2008. Supporters say it will also be a benefit to the community by improving emergency services, education, and library services.
