Several states have passed, or are considering legislation banning text messaging while driving. And now a new survey shows why.
Think that driver in front of you is distracted?
A new survey says more than half of adults admit sending text messages while driving. This, despite almost nine in 10 people who say that texting while driving is dangerous and should be outlawed.
Reuters is reporting the details of the survey, commissioned by the mobile messaging service, Pinger. Other findings? Two thirds of adults who drive and text say they have read text messages or email while operating a vehicle, and 57 percent say they’ve typed them out while behind the wheel. And it seems the younger the driver, the more likely they’re texting. Sixty four percent of those who do are between 18 and 34. While just six percent are over 55.
