Following another record year, Pennsylvania liquor stores will be getting a new look for their 75th anniversary next year.
The idea behind “PLCB 75,” says Liquor Control Board spokesman Nick Hays, is to brand state stores in a way comparable to other major retailers:
“It could be the layout of the stores, it could the paint on the walls, it could the way the floors are arranged. It’s also going to be how the product is arranged. We’re going to be studying a little more closely the way our customers shop.”
Meanwhile, the state store system in the last fiscal year continued on the roll it’s been on in recent years. Sales increased 7.2 percent, to 1.69 billion, and the LCB generated record revenues for the Commonwealth, putting $487 million into the state’s general fund thanks not only to the record sales but to a reduction in the growth of expenses and the closing of some under-performing stores.
