The Delaware County DA has a warning for anyone getting mail these days from the voter registration office -- check it out closely. Your registration may have been altered without your knowledge.
When the county clerk noticed problems on 100 voter registration forms, she called in the district attorney. Four people working for the community group ACORN were supposed to sign up new voters, but Assistant DA Joe Brielmann says that’s not the way things worked out:
”They’re actually taking names and addresses from phone books, and then creating and/or fabricating other biographical data to complete the voter registration application.”
ACORN is cooperating in the ongoing probe. No one’s been charged yet, although three of the four under suspicion have criminal records. Bottom line -- if you receive a note asking about changes in your voter registration, make sure they’re accurate. If they’re not, or you didn’t ask in the first place, call the clerk’s office.
