Mayor Rizzo's Son Pushes Anti-Nepotism Bill in City Council
|
by KYW's Mike Dunn
City councilman Frank Rizzo is pushing a bill to limit nepotism in city government decades after his late father, the mayor, hired his uncle to be fire commissioner.
Upon his election in 1971, Frank Rizzo Sr. chose his brother, Joe, to be fire commissioner, prompting grumbling about nepotism.
"My uncle Joe was a good fire commissioner, but that was then. That's not now."
So now, city councilman Frank Rizzo is tackling the issue of nepotism by introducing a bill that would place strict limits on the hiring of relatives.
"They're going to have to disclose that they are a relative of Councilman So-and-So, or Commissioner So-and-So."
Rizzo also has on tap other ethics bills, including ones that limit outside sources of income for elected officials.
